Apple Expands U.S. Supply Chain for New iPhones

More U.S. components

Apple said Tuesday it will expand its American Manufacturing Program to increase domestic supplies of components for the iPhone Duo and iPhone 18 Pro. The expansion adds commitments to two U.S.-based suppliers: Pennsylvania-based titanium producer Perryman Co. and Delaware-based Qnity Electronics.

Apple will commit up to $100 million over three years with Perryman Co. The supplier will provide titanium for Apple products, including the iPhone Duo, which Apple describes as its first foldable phone. The commitment’s stated maximum is $100 million, and it covers three years.

The agreement ties Perryman Co. to supplying material for Apple products. Apple specifically named the iPhone Duo among those products. The company didn’t say how much titanium Perryman Co. will supply or how much of the commitment it will spend in any particular year.

The announcement says the program aims to increase domestic supplies of U.S. components. Apple said its expanded work with Perryman Co. and Qnity Electronics supports U.S. jobs. It didn’t give a job figure.

Camera components and U.S. jobs

Apple will also expand its partnership with Delaware-based Qnity Electronics. The supplier will make components for the camera system in the iPhone 18 Pro.

The two suppliers have different roles. Perryman Co. will provide titanium for Apple products, including the iPhone Duo, while Qnity Electronics will make components for the iPhone 18 Pro’s camera system. Apple described both arrangements as part of its expanded American Manufacturing Program.

Chief Operating Officer Sabih Khan described the suppliers’ work as part of Apple’s U.S. manufacturing effort. “American ingenuity is vital to all our products, from the titanium crafted for iPhone Duo to breakthrough camera innovations in iPhone 18 Pro,” he said.

Khan also said: “We're proud to work with Perryman and Qnity Electronics to continue expanding our American Manufacturing Program and support U.S. jobs.” The statement identifies U.S. jobs as a purpose of the expanded partnerships, but doesn’t say how many positions the work will create or support.

What the announcement specifies

Apple’s announcement names two U.S. suppliers, two product lines and the components tied to each partnership. It sets a commitment of up to $100 million over three years for work with Perryman Co. The announcement doesn’t specify a dollar amount for Qnity Electronics.

The named products are the iPhone Duo and iPhone 18 Pro. Apple called the Duo its first foldable phone. Perryman Co. will provide titanium for Apple products, including the Duo; Qnity Electronics will make components for the iPhone 18 Pro camera system.

Apple presents the expanded partnerships as a way to increase domestic component supplies through its American Manufacturing Program. The announcement doesn’t describe changes to ownership, control of the program or national policy. It also gives no figures for current U.S. component supplies, supplier output or the share of either iPhone’s components that the two companies will provide.

Apple’s stated commitments cover only the details it disclosed: an investment of up to $100 million over three years with Perryman Co., titanium supply for Apple products, and expanded Qnity Electronics production of camera-system components for the iPhone 18 Pro. Khan connected the supplier work to American manufacturing and U.S. jobs. Apple announced no employment total.
