Arsenal have completed the £34m signing of Greece forward Christos Tzolis from Club Brugge and are preparing a £70m offer for Newcastle captain Bruno Guimarães as the Premier League champions seek to strengthen their squad after last season's title triumph.
Tzolis, 24, joins on what Arsenal describe as a long-term contract after scoring 43 goals and providing 45 assists in 108 appearances for the Belgian side. The move fills the gap left by Belgium forward Leandro Trossard's departure to Besiktas earlier this month.
The Guimarães Pursuit
Talks over a potential move for Guimarães have accelerated in recent days, with the Brazil international understood to prefer a move to Arsenal this summer. The 28-year-old is a priority target for the Gunners, though it remains to be seen whether Arsenal's £70m offer will meet Newcastle's valuation. Personal terms aren't expected to be an issue.
Sources close to Newcastle insist the Magpies have no intention of selling Guimarães and that there has been no direct approach from Arsenal for their player. Arsenal have a hardline maximum valuation of Guimarães and are unwilling to overpay despite their desire to sign the midfielder.
The Morgan Rogers Setback
The north London side were interested in signing Morgan Rogers from Aston Villa but refused to go higher than their £80m valuation of the player, who has joined Chelsea for £117m. Arsenal were given the opportunity to match Chelsea's offer for Rogers but declined.
Having missed out on Rogers, Arsenal remain in the market for attacking reinforcements. Arsenal sporting director Andrea Berta praised Tzolis as "an extremely versatile attacking player who naturally operates on the left but is comfortable across the front line."
"He's an excellent finisher with both feet, thrives in tight spaces, and possesses incredible technical ability," Berta said. "Christos has produced outstanding numbers in terms of goals and assists over the last three seasons, and he's a player who will raise the technical level of our squad, while bringing positive energy, enthusiasm, and a strong mentality to our team."
Tzolis, who started his career at PAOK, made 30 appearances for Norwich between 2021 and 2024, scoring three goals. During his time at the club he had spells on loan at Twente and Fortuna Dusseldorf before joining Club Brugge. He made his Premier League debut for the Canaries in a 1-0 defeat at Arsenal four years and ten months ago.
The Greek international said he had a "nice conversation" with Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta. "We talked about everything — about the club, about myself, about his plans, about me of course, about the team," he said. "It was only positive things."
"I'm a direct player, I go for goals or assists. That's my point of view as an attacker, as a winger," Tzolis added. "I'm always hungry to score or to give the final pass to my team-mates. And I can say I work hard for the team, also in the defensive part."
