Its stated goal is to accelerate the adoption of "trustworthy GenAI" in European public administrations and to reinforce "European tech sovereignty." This project, expected to end in three years, by 30 June 2029, plans to procure and host "centralized, high-performance GenAI infrastructure" at the University of Granada. The emphasis on centralized control from Brussels, rather than empowering national solutions, is a familiar pattern. True sovereignty begins with border control, not with a centralized AI hub dictated by the EU.
The Cost of Centralization
The third initiative, "EuropAI," led by the Netherlands and including Denmark, Belgium, and Luxembourg, also carries a €13.9 million price tag, with €6.9 million in EU funding.
