Chile’s S&P IPSA closed at 10,926.50 on Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2026, down 0.42% as lithium producer SQM-B and shopping-centre operator Mallplaza fell. The index ended about 0.7% below 11,000, after closing at about 10,972 on Monday. Among the regional markets compared in the report, Chile posted the largest Tuesday decline.
IPSA and its largest decliners
SQM-B fell more than 1% in Santiago. The market board listed the share at 65,305, down 0.84% from its previous close of 65,860. It recorded a high of 66,949, a low of 64,978 and volume of 76,539. SQM-B’s New York listing fell 0.13%.
The report described SQM-B as one of the world’s largest lithium producers and said lithium shares can serve as a barometer for electric-vehicle and battery demand. It didn’t confirm what caused the lithium-share decline.
Mallplaza fell about 2.3%, adding pressure from the retail sector. The report didn’t confirm what caused the retail decline or moves in other individual stocks.
Several other listed shares also declined, according to the market board. BSANTANDER fell 2.28% to 78.37, CENCOSUD lost 2.19% to 1,946, CMPC fell 1.96% to 1,020, and FALABELLA declined 1.48% to 6,334. COPEC was down 1.09% at 5,964, BANCO CHILE fell 1.01% to 184.96, LATAM AIR lost 1.11% to 24.08, and SOUTHERN COPPER slipped 0.26% to 193.97.
ENELAM was among the gainers, rising 0.10% to 87.09. Just two of the 11 names advanced. Utilities led the session; Consumer Staples lagged.
Peso, commodities and market levels
Local market reports put the Chilean peso at about 974 per U.S. dollar, roughly 0.7% firmer on the day. The report said a stronger peso softened the decline for U.S. investors measuring returns in dollars, while part of the peso’s strength reflected a weaker U.S. dollar. The dollar index fell about 0.3% to 101.7.
A separate market board listed USD/CLP at 913.98, up 0.04% from a previous value of 913.65. It showed a high of 915.11 and a low of 906.68. The board listed copper at 6.61, up 0.03%, with a previous value of 6.61, a high of 6.71, a low of 6.61 and volume of 39,543. The report said it wasn’t known whether copper, Chile’s main export, moved that day.
The IPSA board recorded a previous close of 10,972.40, a high of 11,210, a low of 10,984 and volume of 1,513,213,483. It identified 11,000 as an immediate technical marker. A sustained move above that level would suggest Tuesday’s fall was a pause, while failure to reclaim it could invite further caution.
Regional markets and rate bets
Brazil’s Ibovespa rose 1.57%, Mexico’s S&P/BMV IPC rose 0.36%, and Colombia’s COLCAP gained 0.47%. Argentina’s MSCI Merval fell 0.3%. The report called Chile’s 0.42% decline the region’s largest. Its separate market data panel listed the S&P/BMV IPC up 1.04%, the MSCI Merval unchanged and BVL Perú down 0.06%.
Polymarket priced the Central Bank of Chile’s October decision at 96.4% for no change, 2.1% for a 25-basis-point increase and 1.3% for a 25-basis-point cut. US$14,144 had traded at 8:36 p.m. ET on Oct. 20, 2026. The report described the market as thinly traded and said its prices were bets, not polls. It identified Kalshi as a U.S. exchange regulated by the CFTC. RT received credit for market data, Diario Financiero and Infobae for session reports, and Matthias Camenzind was named as Editor-in-Chief.
