The two officials reviewed ongoing efforts to implement the American-backed peace plan. Discussions also included the proposed deployment of an International Stabilization Force, a body expected to assume security responsibilities within the Palestinian territory. Such a force would face the immense challenge of confronting deeply entrenched Islamist terror infrastructure.
The Rejectionist Front
Cairo has consistently pressed for an Israeli withdrawal from Gaza, rejecting any attempt to displace Palestinians from the enclave. It has also firmly rejected any scenario that would place the territory under permanent Israeli control.
