Egypt Trains 10,485 Students for Technology Jobs

Egypt’s 2026 Summer Training Program trained 10,485 university students across 27 governorates. Participants completed 120 hours of instruction in technology and professional skills. The Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA) and the National Telecommunication Institute (NTI) honored top-performing graduates at a ceremony at ITIDA’s headquarters in Smart Village on Saturday, 17 October 2026.

Training across Egypt

The program offered eight technology tracks, pairing technical training with international academy curricula and freelancing skills. It forms part of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology’s efforts to build Egypt’s digital talent pool and prepare specialized workers for the information and communications technology sector.

Participants received 90 hours of technical instruction and 30 hours focused on soft skills or freelancing. Tracks covered cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, software development, data science, digital arts, systems administration, cloud computing and electronics. Cybersecurity drew the largest group: 2,192 trainees. Artificial intelligence followed with 2,001, then software development with 1,998.

The program recorded 3,691 trainees in Greater Cairo, 3,941 in Lower Egypt and the Delta, 2,298 in Upper Egypt and 555 in the Canal governorates. The institutions said they allocated opportunities through mechanisms intended to achieve balanced distribution, in line with student numbers in targeted academic disciplines in each governorate.

ITIDA CEO Eng. Ahmed El Zaher said investment in young people’s skills is essential to the growth and global competitiveness of Egypt’s technology industry. He said the training connects theoretical knowledge with practical application, and highlighted how rapid technological advances—particularly in artificial intelligence—affect jobs and employer requirements.

El Zaher described the initiative as Egypt’s largest summer training program for university students by participant numbers. About 1,200 trainees completed their training pathways and advanced to higher levels. Students can continue in the same track in later years or explore other fields.

Projects, certifications and work experience

NTI President Prof. Dr. Ahmed Khattab congratulated more than 10,000 students who completed the program. Participants either developed a practical project published on GitHub or earned certification through an international academy, he said. This year, students had to complete a practical graduation project to receive the program certificate, while the program also strengthened opportunities to gain international certifications and freelancing skills.

More than 40,000 students applied in less than seven days after registration opened. Khattab said the top 200 graduates generated approximately $25,000 in freelancing revenue, averaging around $125 per graduate, within a short period after finishing the program.

A total of 3,807 students took training delivered through international technology academies, including programs affiliated with Amazon Web Services (AWS), Cisco, Fortinet, Huawei and Red Hat. At the ceremony, organizers recognized 44 students who earned Fortinet Cybersecurity certification, students who secured freelancing opportunities through Gigs and the teams behind the three top graduation projects.

Top-performing students also visited international and local technology companies’ offices in Smart Village. There, they learned about workplaces, business operations, technology roles and employer requirements. Participating companies were VOIS, Valeo, Systems Egypt, Coretech Innovations, Esperti Solutions and Izam Inc.

ITIDA’s VP for ICT Markets Development, Eng. Mahmoud Sofrata, said the program let students demonstrate their abilities through projects, earn specialized professional certifications and gain freelancing experience. ITIDA and NTI delivered the program for its second consecutive year as part of the ministry’s strategy to develop digital capabilities and prepare talent for Egypt’s technology sector and international markets.

Egypt has approximately 750,000 university graduates annually, including more than 50,000 ICT and engineering graduates. The country also has an established offshoring industry and a growing presence of multinational technology and professional services companies in software development, engineering, business services and digital operations.
