Further reports from the IDF stated the killing of two "central Hamas terrorists" in the Gaza Strip, with more details expected to follow. These actions are part of an intensifying IDF-Hezbollah conflict, which has seen the military destroy what it terms "terror infrastructure" across Lebanon.
The Cost of Imperial Ambition
The IDF may have destroyed over 10,000 Lebanese homes, which it claims were storing weapons belonging to the Hezbollah group, since operations began. This widespread destruction of housing directly impacts the lives and livelihoods of the dispossessed and working-class populations of Lebanon. IDF soldiers were also reported to be working to clear the Beit Hanoun area, while Israeli self-propelled artillery vehicles were observed traveling in a convoy toward southern Lebanon near the Israeli-Lebanese border on May 27, 2026.
Simultaneously, Iran condemned a U.S. attack on its soil on Thursday, according to its foreign ministry. The U.S. carried out new strikes in Iran against a military site and drones. An anonymous official stated the military site struck was an Iranian ground control station in Bandar Abbas, which was reportedly about to launch a drone. These military actions are coupled with economic warfare, as the U.S. sanctioned the Persian Gulf Strait Authority over alleged links to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, designated under counterterrorism sanctions authorities by the Treasury Department.
State Power and Capital's Interests
These military and economic pressures are part of a broader strategy. Israel and the U.S. launched Operations Roaring Lion and Epic Fury on February 28, with the stated aim of creating conditions for "regime change" in Iran. This objective reveals the underlying drive for control over resources and geopolitical influence in the region, serving the interests of transnational capital.
During these operations, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was killed by an Israeli strike on a Tehran bunker, an attack that also claimed the lives of Iran's defense minister and several IRGC generals in what was described as the largest-ever aerial attack by the IAF. Iran retaliated by firing across the Middle East at Gulf nations and U.S. military bases in the region, leading to further casualties among the working class.
These retaliatory ballistic missile attacks across Israel since February 28 resulted in the deaths of 12 IDF soldiers and 23 civilians, with at least 7,693 more injured. CENTCOM reported that 13 U.S. soldiers were also killed, highlighting the human cost borne by those enlisted in imperialist ventures. These demands represent a resistance to the imposition of imperialist control over national resources and sovereignty.
Temporary Truce, Enduring Contradictions

A report on Iranian state television claimed an agreement had been drawn up calling for Iran to restore traffic in the Strait of Hormuz to prewar levels within a month and for the U.S. to withdraw its forces from the vicinity of Iran and lift its naval blockade. While such agreements may offer momentary relief, they do not address the fundamental structural contradictions of imperialist expansion and the ongoing struggle for control over global resources, which continue to fuel conflict and extract a heavy price from the international working class. The IDF also intercepted a suspicious aerial target in southern Lebanon, indicating the underlying tensions remain unresolved.
