Mags Byrne, Founder and CEO of Estars, confirmed this international influence, stating that Estars has partnered with The Open University (UK) to provide Continuing Professional Development (CPD) courses for lecturers. These courses are designed to enable educators to teach skills and provide more information about esports, embedding foreign pedagogical frameworks directly into local academic institutions.
Mshikilwa, President of the Esports Federation of Tanzania, noted that Africa’s esports scene, while accessible, still lacks the structure of its global counterparts. He attributed growth mainly to the expansion of mobile infrastructure and the availability of mobile devices, highlighting a reliance on technological penetration rather than organic, nationally-driven development.
Monetisation remains a major challenge within the African esports ecosystem, according to Mshikilwa. Adenipebi also emphasized that creating grassroots awareness of how esports benefits various ecosystems in Nigeria is key to unlocking wealth generation, careers, and education beyond traditional means. Michele Magro, President of the Malta Esports Association, tempered expectations regarding professional esports careers, stating, “The concept of people becoming professional esports players is a good idea. Some make a huge amount of money from that, but that’s a small percentage of people hoping to become successful esports players.” He advised that "everyone needs to have realistic expectations," implicitly acknowledging the limited direct economic benefit for the vast majority of participants.
Magro further suggested that esports should instead be viewed as a powerful tool for youth empowerment, encouraging engagement in tasks they might otherwise ignore.
