LA Times Sets the Terms for Food Bowl Giveaway

The Los Angeles Times is offering one grand prize: two weekend passes to its Food Bowl, with rules that determine who can enter. The newspaper isn’t opening the event to everyone who wants to go; it’s running a contest. Eligibility depends on age and residence, and the prize comes with restrictions.

Who Gets Through the Gate

Entrants must be at least 21 and live in Los Angeles, Orange or San Diego County. Legal residents of those counties may enter, and the contest is void where prohibited. No purchase is necessary, but the rules still limit who can try for the prize. The announcement doesn’t offer a way for people outside those counties to enter.

Entry opened Oct. 15, 2026, at 2:00:01 p.m. PT and closes Oct. 20, 2026, at 11:59:59 p.m. PT. Eligible entrants must submit a form at latimes.com/giveaway before the deadline. Each person and email address may enter once. The odds depend on how many eligible entries arrive, so there’s no guaranteed route to the tickets.

There’s one grand prize. It includes two general admission weekend tickets to the 2026 Los Angeles Times Food Bowl, general admission parking each night and two L.A. Times Food Classic canvas totes. Its approximate retail value is $626, and restrictions apply. The contest announcement names the prize and its limits, but doesn’t say how many people have entered or describe a selection process beyond noting that the odds depend on eligible entries.

A Weekend Built Around Paid Access

The Food Bowl is a two-day event featuring unlimited food and drinks prepared by Los Angeles restaurants and bars. It’s scheduled for Friday, Oct. 23, and Saturday, Oct. 24, at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica. The program also includes the 101 Best Restaurants Reveal Party presented by OpenTable and Square.

The giveaway offers general admission, not another category of access. The prize includes general admission parking each night, along with two event-exclusive tote bags made locally in collaboration with Big Bud Press. The contest description doesn’t say the giveaway changes entry rules for people who don’t win. For everyone else, this prize offers no tickets.

The Sponsor Writes the Rules

Los Angeles Times Communications LLC sponsors the contest. Its listed address is 2300 E. Imperial Hwy., El Segundo, CA 90245. The newspaper’s offer sets the entry terms: it names the eligible counties, sets the age threshold, limits submissions and fixes the closing time.

The announcement reports no grassroots organizing, mutual aid or community-run alternative connected to the contest. It describes no election or legislative proposal, either. It’s a promotion with a tightly defined prize and a narrow path to enter; the sponsor’s terms decide who gets that chance.
