Sovereignty Undermined: Elites Forge Iran Deal in Switzerland

A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the United States and Iran, digitally signed last week by U.S. Vice President JD Vance and Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammed-Bagher Ghalibaf, and witnessed by U.S. President Donald Trump, forms the backdrop for ongoing 'peace talks' in Switzerland. The high-level gathering, which includes delegations from Iran, the United States, and Pakistan, highlights a pattern of transnational elite orchestration in international affairs, with key agreements forged before formal negotiations commence.

Iran's delegation, including Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and Parliament Speaker Mohammed-Bagher Ghalibaf, arrived in Switzerland late Saturday night, according to an announcement by the Swiss Foreign Ministry on X. Ghalibaf confirmed his arrival in a post on X, sharing a photo of himself in front of a plane marked with "Minab 168" in English and Persian, alongside the flag of the Iranian regime.

U.S. Vice President JD Vance arrived in Switzerland on Sunday, the same day the talks are scheduled, for what he stated would likely be a couple of days of peace discussions with Iranian officials. Vance and his wife landed at Emmen Air Base in Switzerland at 5:59 a.m., as reported by a vice presidential spokesperson. U.S. Special Envoys Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff were also reportedly already in Switzerland for the negotiations.

The scope of these transnational discussions expanded further with the participation of Pakistani Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and Pakistan's Chief of Staff, who departed Islamabad during the night to take part in the negotiations. This multi-national assembly in Switzerland underscores the broad reach of the elite interests driving these talks.

The original signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between the U.S. and Iran took place in France last week, with U.S. President Donald Trump and Iranian President Hassan Rouhani signing the agreement. The digital signing by Vance and Ghalibaf, witnessed by Trump, was later publicized through footage published by the White House on an X post on Thursday, revealing the pre-arranged nature of the commitments.

Transnational Agenda Takes Hold

An emergency session addressing the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hezbollah has been unilaterally added to the schedule of the first day of the Switzerland talks, according to CBS News, citing a diplomat attending the talks. This decision, made by external parties, bypasses the self-determination of the nations directly involved in the conflict.

Critically, neither Israeli nor Hezbollah representatives will be attending these talks, despite the emergency session being dedicated to their conflict. This exclusion highlights how transnational institutions and elite gatherings presume to manage regional disputes without the direct input or presence of the affected sovereign entities.

The diplomat further stated that the issue of the Israel-Hezbollah conflict will be raised during the first session of negotiations between the U.S. and Iran. This confirms that the U.S. and Iranian regimes are positioning themselves to mediate or dictate terms for a conflict in which they are not direct participants, further eroding national sovereignty in the region.

The Broader Context of Instability

In a separate development, Israel announced it had eliminated two Hamas and Islamic Jihad operatives. These individuals were reportedly tied to a major funding network, indicating ongoing real-world security challenges that persist independently of the elite-driven 'peace talks' and their pre-negotiated agreements.
