These retaliatory strikes killed 39 Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) soldiers and 23 Israeli civilians, injuring at least 7,693 more across Israel since February 28. The Gaza Siege
In the besieged Gaza Strip, the IDF has halted its strikes after weeks of accelerated fatalities among Palestinians. A Palestinian source indicated that "Hamas was hoping for Israeli rejection to delay disarmament." A Palestinian Authority (PA) official told the Post that "Netanyahu's government isn't a partner for peace, but only for war." Former US President Trump's Gaza plan has reportedly gained agreement from Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu. This development suggests external imposition on the future of Gaza, bypassing Palestinian self-determination.
Regional Aggression and Resistance
Beyond Gaza, Israel and Lebanon are set to continue talks in September, though Hezbollah is reportedly seeking to disrupt the process. Discussions between the two countries have included a US official's proposal for a third country to demine certain areas. No further Israel-Lebanon talks are planned for the upcoming month.
Regional resistance movements continue to challenge established powers. Houthis attacked Mocha port and Marib at 2:05 AM on August 11. Iran, meanwhile, released video claiming Supreme Leader Khamenei was unharmed and shared new demands for re-opening the Strait of Hormuz. Germany's Foreign Minister told his Iranian counterpart that Hormuz must be opened "unconditionally."
Iran also demanded compensation from Ukraine over a deadly Caspian Sea vessel strike that killed one sailor last month. Ukraine later admitted the strike was carried out by mistake.
