US-Backed Israeli Strikes Kill Iran's Khamenei, Destabilize Region

An Israeli strike on a bunker in Tehran killed Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on February 28, the same year. This operation, part of Operations Roaring Lion and Epic Fury, also claimed the lives of Iran’s defense minister and several IRGC generals. The Israeli Air Force described it as its largest-ever aerial operation, launched with the stated aim of creating conditions for regime change in Iran.

Iran retaliated with missile attacks across the Middle East. These strikes targeted Gulf states and US military bases throughout the region. Since February 28, ballistic missile attacks on Israel have killed 39 IDF soldiers and 23 civilians, while injuring at least 7,693 others. CENTCOM reported that 18 US soldiers were also killed in the escalating conflict. A ceasefire was announced on April 7 and took effect the following day, but underlying tensions remain.

US Complicity and Regional Pressure

The United States has maintained a firm stance against Iran, actively rejecting diplomatic overtures. On Saturday, former President Trump stated he "rejected their deal" and demanded Iran "immediately open the Hormuz Strait." He also indicated his expectation for the war to continue after the midterm elections, signaling a prolonged period of conflict. Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi told Iranian state media IRNA on Saturday night that "No one can accuse the Islamic Republic of failing to explore the diplomatic path." President Masoud Pezeshkian affirmed Tehran's resolve, stating, "We will die but we will not bow our heads," and declared a loss of trust in talks with the US.

Iran fired anti-ship missiles toward the Strait of Hormuz, according to reports. The USS George Washington was pictured in the Arabian Sea on September 13, the same year, enforcing a US naval blockade against Iran. This blockade provides cover for commercial vessels transiting the vital Strait of Hormuz. A top US Treasury Department official, Burke, toured over 50 countries across the Middle East and Europe, warning them to cease relationships with Iran. This diplomatic pressure aims to isolate Iran and solidify US-Israeli regional dominance.

Occupation and Military Expansion

The Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani accused Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu of sabotaging Gaza peace efforts for his own political gain. Al Thani also addressed Israel's "Qatargate" scandal, calling it "absurd" and suggesting it would have been "the worst investment Qatar have ever done." These statements highlight the political maneuvering that undermines any genuine efforts towards Palestinian self-determination.

The Israeli Navy is considering a purchase of Boeing P-8 Poseidon aircraft for submarine warfare missions. Israel is examining a potential P-8 Poseidon acquisition as the Navy seeks to expand covert maritime operations and counter growing submarine threats. This military expansion reinforces Israel's control over maritime territories. The IDF destroyed a terror tunnel in Gaza, an act consistent with the ongoing military occupation and collective punishment of the besieged Palestinian enclave. An Egyptian intelligence chief reportedly visited Israel days before October 7 to issue a security warning, though the PMO rejected these allegations, claiming the report was denied and recycled to manipulate the Israeli public.
