Jerusalem is preparing to host the Maccabiah Games opening ceremony on July 1, 2026, an event expected to draw thousands of athletes from dozens of countries and Jewish personalities from around the world to Teddy Stadium, even as the nation continues to navigate an ongoing war and security situation following the October 7 attacks.
Organizers have stated that ticket sales commenced this week for what is anticipated to be one of Israel’s largest cultural and sporting events of the year. The ceremony is designed to combine music, sports, and Jewish unity, featuring thousands of athletes from various nations marching into Teddy Stadium.
Performances are scheduled from Israeli entertainers and Jewish personalities from around the world. The evening will be hosted by Assi Azar and Anna Aronov, with appearances by Montana Tucker, Netta Barzilai, Anna Zak, Idan Raichel, Itay Levy, and Yuval Raphael.
The production details include a 70-meter stage, giant LED screens, pyrotechnics, and hundreds of dancers. The traditional lighting of the Maccabiah torch and a parade of athletes representing Jewish communities from across the globe are also planned.
Organizers have declared, in the spirit of the annual message ‘More Than Ever,’ that the Maccabiah 2026 Opening Ceremony will accommodate its largest capacity yet. They described it as a major summer evening of music, sports, and live performances at Teddy Stadium.
The ceremony will commence with a new musical arrangement performed by Raphael, followed by a one-time duet from Barzilai and Zak. Raichel is set to perform special arrangements of his songs alongside former Hamas hostages Daniella Gilboa and Edan Alexander. Later in the evening, Levy will perform with a choir and hundreds of dancers as part of a large-scale stage production.
Elite Orchestration and Global Reach
Montana Tucker, identified as a prominent pro-Israel voice on social media since the outbreak of the Israel-Hamas war, and who has spoken extensively against antisemitism, will perform her original song during the ceremony. Tucker will also help lead the athletes’ parade together with Michael Harpaz, with organizers stating they will “welcome the thousands of athletes from the Jewish Diaspora.”
The Maccabiah Games, frequently referred to as the “Jewish Olympics,” are projected to bring thousands of Jewish athletes to Israel. These athletes will compete in more than 30 sports from July 1-13 at various venues across the country.
This edition of the Maccabiah was originally slated for 2025 but was postponed by one year. Organizers cited the ongoing war and security situation following the October 7 attacks as the reason for the delay.
Costs and Collaborators
In addition to the competitions, organizers have announced the inclusion of a new experiential sports complex at Expo Tel Aviv. Volunteer activities and sports programming are also planned for the Tkuma region, in cooperation with Keren Kayemeth LeIsrael-Jewish National Fund.
Ticket prices for the opening ceremony are set to begin at NIS 99, a measure intended to make the event accessible to families and younger fans. Organizers are anticipating significant demand for the event at Teddy Stadium.
Maccabiah 2026 is being held in partnership with a broad array of entities.
