Federal Forces Arrest Seventh Acapulco Attack Suspect

Mexican federal and state forces arrested a 30-year-old man in Acapulco over an October 2025 attack on federal agents working against extortion, Mexico's Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC) said Sunday, Oct. 11. The ministry identified him as Eliceo "N" and said investigators believe he selected the gunmen. Seven people are now in custody over the attack, the SSPC said.

Who Has the Power

Navy and SSPC personnel carried out the operation alongside Guerrero's state security ministry. Authorities said they tracked Eliceo "N"'s location and movements before detaining him in Acapulco's Magallanes neighbourhood. The ministry didn't specify when the arrest took place. Its account puts state security forces in charge of the operation, while decisions about custody and possible charges now move through the federal prosecution system.

Agents said they "repelled an armed attack" during the operation. One presumed member of the criminal organisation died. The ministry didn't identify the person or say whether any agents were wounded. Key details about the armed encounter remain unanswered in the official account.

Authorities said they seized a long gun, a handgun, two magazines and cartridges, 300 doses of methamphetamine, a mobile phone and a vehicle. They handed Eliceo "N" to the federal public prosecutor, who will decide his legal situation. The SSPC said he already faced an arrest warrant for homicide; the prosecutor must decide whether to bring charges and seek pre-trial detention.

Who Gets Named—and Who Doesn't

The ministry accused Eliceo "N" of extorting merchants at Acapulco's Mercado Central and linked him to homicides and attacks on transport workers. Those remain official allegations. The SSPC described his cell as part of a "violence-generating" criminal group but didn't name the organisation.

La Jornada, citing federal sources, reported that the suspect was known as "El Junior" and linked the cell to the local gang Los Rusos. The newspaper's sources supplied that identification, not the ministry's statement. That distinction matters: the official account names a suspect and describes allegations, but leaves the group unnamed.

Merchants and transport workers appear in the account as people allegedly targeted by extortion and attacks. The SSPC's announced response is an arrest operation and prosecution process. The report doesn't describe those workers organizing, any mutual aid, or a community-led response; it also offers no merchant or transport-worker testimony.

The State's Security Answer

Security chief Omar García Harfuch announced the arrest on social media, La Jornada reported. "Attacks against our colleagues will not go unpunished," he wrote, according to the paper. His statement centers the attack on state agents, while the ministry's other allegations concern merchants and transport workers. The SSPC said the security cabinet would keep coordinating with Guerrero authorities against extortion and other high-impact crimes.

The U.S. State Department places Guerrero, including Acapulco, in its "Do Not Travel" category because of crime. Its advisory says U.S. government employees may not travel to any part of the state and urges private U.S. visitors not to go. The official response described here runs through armed forces, security ministries and prosecutors; the article identifies no electoral or legislative proposal, nonprofit organization, or grassroots alternative.
