Israel's Tech Resilience Grows with Nvidia's Negev Expansion

Nvidia officially inaugurated its new R&D center in Beersheba on Tuesday, completing a significant expansion that solidifies Israel's role as a vital hub for Western technological innovation. The new site in the Gav Yam High-Tech Park now spans approximately 3,000 square meters, tripling the size of its predecessor. This move underscores a deep commitment to developing advanced AI infrastructure within the Jewish state, even as it navigates a volatile region.

The facility represents an investment of tens of millions of shekels. Its 10-year lease carries an annual rent of about NIS 2.5 million, signaling a long-term commitment to the region. More than 150 employees currently work at the Beersheba center, with plans to hire hundreds more in the coming years.

Technological Bulwark in the South

This Beersheba site is Nvidia's southernmost R&D center in Israel, complementing its local headquarters in Yokneam and other centers in Tel Aviv, Ra'anana, and Tel Hai on the northern border. It stands as Nvidia's largest center in Israel's periphery, part of a broader expansion of the chip company's operations across the nation. R&D teams at the new center are developing critical hardware and software technologies for Nvidia's AI infrastructure. These teams focus on solutions for connecting thousands of chips and processors, facilitating high-speed data transfer, and operating the data centers essential for training and running AI models.

Nvidia ranks among Israel's largest private employers in the tech sector, with over 6,000 employees across its five R&D centers. The company's workforce in Israel has tripled since its acquisition of Mellanox six years ago. It currently lists more than 450 open positions nationwide, reflecting sustained growth and demand for Israeli talent.

Strategic Investment in Innovation

Nvidia SVP and Israel site manager Amit Krig stated the Beersheba R&D center was founded over a decade ago, driven by a deep belief in local talent and the synergy between academia, innovation, and industry. Krig emphasized the new site's commitment to the technological ecosystem in the south, aiming to strengthen young students and nurture the next generation of engineers. He also highlighted the development of groundbreaking technologies that position Nvidia's Israeli operations at the core of the AI revolution.

Beersheba Mayor Ruvik Danilovich described the inauguration as an extraordinary expression of trust in Beersheba, the Negev, and its growing human capital. Danilovich noted that the decision by one of the world's leading tech companies to triple its activities and create hundreds of new jobs validates the long-held vision for Beersheba. He concluded that this expansion firmly establishes Beersheba as a major center for innovation and AI within Israel, reinforcing the nation's strategic importance in global technology.
