Regime Demands 'Perfect' Troops for White House Show

Senior Pentagon leaders are compiling lists of uniformed U.S. service members to attend a White House UFC event, with strict physical appearance and political alignment criteria, forcing attendees to cover their own travel costs for what officials describe as a "made-for-TV" spectacle. Guidance memos reviewed by CNN and sources familiar with the process confirm that these lists are being assembled for the event, which will be hosted by President Donald Trump next month.

The guidance specifies that ticket recipients are required to meet the DOW waist-to-height ratio standard of less than 0.55. Additionally, all service-specific physical fitness test requirements must be met by those selected. Commanders have been directed to distribute tickets exclusively to "genuine UFC fans," with a particular focus on selecting junior enlisted and junior officers.

Pentagon guidance recommends that military leaders recruit attendees who live outside the nation’s capital. Despite the tickets being free, service members will be required to pay their own way to the event. One defense official stated that the selection requirements for Trump’s made-for-TV UFC event send a very clear message to soldiers interested in attending: “No fattys.” Another defense official, familiar with the approval process, indicated that senior Pentagon leaders have signaled their preference that DoD attendees “look good” on camera during the event, adding, “Basically, no fat soldiers.”

Elite Directives

This intense focus on physical fitness aligns with the vision articulated by Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth. In a speech to senior uniformed leaders last October at Marine Base Quantico, Virginia, Hegseth declared, “There will be no ‘fat troops’ or ‘fat generals and admirals in the halls of the Pentagon.’” The Pentagon has declined to comment on the specific guidance concerning the UFC event.

Politicizing National Service

This orchestration of military optics for a presidential appearance is not an isolated incident. The Pentagon has previously tightly controlled the image presented during President Trump’s interactions with U.S. troops. At a prior visit to Ft. Bragg, soldiers were handpicked for the audience based on both political leanings and physical appearance. The troops ultimately selected to be behind President Trump and visible to the cameras were almost exclusively male.

The Cost of Image

The requirement for service members to cover their own travel expenses for an event where their appearance is paramount underscores a prioritization of political optics over the practical considerations for the native working class within the military. This elite capture of military image for a public spectacle, where national defenders are selected for their camera-readiness and political alignment, reflects a broader trend of institutional resources being diverted to serve a specific regime narrative rather than the core mission of national defense. The systematic handpicking of personnel based on superficial criteria and political leanings transforms a national institution into a backdrop for political theater, further eroding the integrity of national service.
