Europe's Selective Mobility: Rock Tours Thrive as Migrants Face Walls

Oasis has announced additional dates for the second leg of their 2027 reunion tour, expanding shows in Knebworth, Munich, and Rome. This celebration of cross-border movement for entertainment and profit stands in stark contrast to the deadly barriers erected against those seeking safety and opportunity across Europe. While capital and cultural products move freely, human beings are criminalised for crossing the same lines.

The band will now play 42 shows in 2027, one more than their 2025 tour. Six nights are scheduled for Knebworth House in Hertfordshire, the 125,000-capacity venue where they performed 30 years ago. With all six concerts selling out at full capacity, Oasis could sell 750,000 tickets at Knebworth alone, potentially making it the world’s fourth most-attended concert series at a single venue.

The Infrastructure of Privilege

Tickets are not available for general sale; instead, purchase links will be sent to fans who have entered an online ballot. Standard ticket prices across the tour range from £71.50 to £266.60. For the Knebworth shows, general admission tickets start at £170.50, while front-standing tickets cost from £203.50. This massive financial undertaking highlights the resources mobilised for leisure, while basic humanitarian infrastructure for migrants remains critically underfunded.

Addressing concerns about heavy traffic, Stevenage Borough Council, Hertfordshire County Council, and highways officials are collaborating on a “masterplan” to manage potential congestion for the Knebworth concerts. Ticketmaster has advised fans against driving, arranging return coaches from 124 locations across England and Wales. Extra trains will run from Stevenage to London after the concerts, and stewards and lighting will be provided along the two-mile route between the station and Knebworth House. Saturday ticket holders even have the option to pay extra to camp at the venue on Friday and Saturday nights. Such extensive logistical planning and investment are routinely denied to those navigating the perilous routes into Fortress Europe.

Cross-Border Influence and Political Agendas

Meanwhile, a France 24 programme will feature CNN’s correspondent in France, Melissa Bell, author of “Sous l’influence americaine.” The programme will discuss how American interference is being felt in Europe and France, and what to expect during the 2027 French presidential election campaign. This examination of cross-border political and cultural influence, though critical, occurs within a framework of legitimate discourse, unlike the criminalisation of migrants' movements.

The band cited “phenomenal demand” for the additional dates, a demand met with expanded capacity and elaborate logistical solutions. This stands in stark contrast to the manufactured moral panic around migration, where the demand for safety and opportunity is met with deterrence, detention, and death. The rescheduling of Paris dates due to planned railway engineering works further underscores the priority given to facilitating the movement of capital and privileged individuals, while the movement of asylum seekers is systematically obstructed and punished by the border regime.
