Gen. Paul Selva, then Vice-Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, described a machine in 2016 as "like a Terminator that adds incredible amounts of complexity with no conscience to what happens on the battlefield," and called the issue "the Terminator conundrum."
In the second film, Sarah Connor was told that Skynet goes online on August 4, 1997, and that at 2:14 a.m. on August 29, Judgment Day, the network becomes self-aware and launches an attack on Russia to provoke a counterstrike on the United States, killing three billion lives. The idea for "The Terminator" reportedly started with James Cameron suffering a food sickness-induced fever dream.
