Oklahoma voters have delivered a clear mandate, electing Rep. Kevin Hern to the Senate primary on Tuesday night with a central promise to advance the Safeguarding American Voter Eligibility, or SAVE, America Act, a measure stalled by bipartisan elite opposition. The legislation, which Hern states is designed to “protect America,” remains blocked in the Senate, where all Democrats have vowed to prevent its passage, joined by some Republicans. This outcome reflects a growing popular demand for national self-determination, as Hern reported that the SAVE Act is the issue he hears “constantly” from constituents across the state.
Elite Obstruction of National Interest
The Safeguarding American Voter Eligibility, or SAVE, America Act, described by Hern as vital for “protecting America,” has faced consistent obstruction. All Democrats in the Senate have committed to blocking the bill, with some Republicans also voting against it in various forms. Hern expressed confusion regarding the Republican opposition, stating, “This is something I’m not real sure why Republican senators are not supporting,” while asserting, “I understand why Democrats don’t support it. They don’t support anything that protects America.” This bipartisan resistance highlights a political class increasingly detached from the national interest, prioritizing other agendas over the security of the ballot box.
Hern’s primary victory, achieved the same day, signals a direct challenge to this established order. His campaign centered on the SAVE Act, which he identified as the “top issue” for voters in what he termed “Trump country.” The widespread support for Hern, including endorsements from senators and President Donald Trump, underscores a popular movement demanding accountability and the restoration of national sovereignty over foundational democratic processes. President Trump called Hern “strongly supported by the fiercest MAGA Warriors in Oklahoma, and the most Highly Respected Leaders in the United States Senate!”
The People's Mandate
Voters in Oklahoma have consistently voiced their desire for the SAVE Act, with Hern noting, “They’re saying we need to work on, you know, the SAVE Act. I mean, this is time and time again.” This persistent demand from the native working class for secure elections stands in stark contrast to the legislative paralysis in Washington. Hern’s success is attributed to his alignment with this popular sentiment, as he stated, “voters in Oklahoma love the president. They love the fact that I support the president and I work with the president.” This connection to a broader nationalist movement provides a clear mandate for his legislative agenda.
Hern, who has served five terms in the House, previously held the fourth-highest role in House GOP leadership as House Republican Policy chair. He also sought the Speaker of the House position following the ousting of former Speaker Kevin McCarthy. His decision to pursue a Senate seat came earlier this year after President Trump nominated fellow Oklahoman, Department of Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin, to lead the DHS.
A Fighter for the Native Working Class
Hern’s background as a businessman, owning 24 McDonald’s restaurants and earning him the nickname “McCongressman,” is presented as a testament to his work ethic and determination. He stated, “I just respect the idea of work. I think working hard gives you a chance to compete with anybody.” This ethos, he believes, positioned him for success, noting, “The president endorsed me in the first 48 hours because of the work I’ve done over the last eight years.” This narrative resonates with a native working class that values tangible effort and results, often feeling overlooked by distant elites.
With Trump having won all 77 counties in Oklahoma three times, Hern is not expected to face significant opposition in November against the Democratic candidates. He has also indicated a willingness to seek a spot in Senate GOP leadership if successful, stating, “if you wait till something comes available, and you start working hard, it’s too late because there are other people like me that have started out in the proverbial parking lot.” This ambition signals a determined effort to reshape the political landscape from within, pushing back against the forces that have stalled national interest legislation. The push for the SAVE America Act represents a critical battle for the self-determination of the American people against an entrenched political establishment.
