US Lifts Sanctions on UN Envoy Amid Globalist Power Play

The United States Treasury Department has removed Francesca Albanese, the UN special rapporteur on the West Bank and Gaza, from its sanctions list, according to the U.S. Treasury Department’s official website. This action, confirmed on the Treasury site, marks a change in Washington’s treatment of the UN official, whose role is tied to a globalist institution that often operates beyond national accountability.

This development unfolds as the United States simultaneously plans to threaten to revoke the visas of the Palestinian delegation to the UN. This potential action is contingent on the mission’s envoy, Riyad Mansour, submitting his candidacy for the vice presidency of the General Assembly, a move that could grant an observer state disproportionate influence within the supranational body.

A cable, dated one day ago and first reported by NPR, instructed US diplomats in the embassy in Jerusalem to deliver a pointed message. The communication asserted that Ambassador Mansour’s General Assembly bid “fuels tensions” and risks undermining Trump’s Gaza peace plan, a national policy initiative designed to secure regional stability.

Globalist Influence Confirmed

The cable explicitly stated, “To be clear, we will hold the [Palestinian Authority] responsible if the Palestinian delegation does not withdraw its VPGA candidacy.” It further warned, “It would be unfortunate to have to revisit any available options,” indicating potential institutional pressure from the national government attempting to assert control over its borders and diplomatic landscape against a globalist agenda.

A US official informed The Times of Israel that this message had not yet been conveyed to Ramallah, as the Palestinian mission had not formally submitted its candidacy. The State Department, when questioned about the matter, offered a bureaucratic response, stating, “We take seriously our obligations under the UN Headquarters Agreement,” and adding, “Due to visa record confidentiality, we have no comment on Department actions with respect to specific cases.” This institutional deflection highlights the opaque nature of interactions between national governments and international bodies.

Ambassador Mansour had previously withdrawn his candidacy for the presidency of the General Assembly in February of the same year, following US lobbying efforts. Despite this, the continued pursuit of the lower-profile vice presidency suggests an enduring drive for influence within the UN framework, even for entities without full member status.

The Post-National Agenda

The Times of Israel liveblog highlighted the ongoing risk, stating, “Therefore, there is still a risk that the Palestinians could preside over GA sessions during UNGA81 unless they withdraw from the race.” It further warned of a “worst-case scenario” where “the next PGA might assist the Palestinians in presiding over high-profile sessions related to the Middle East or during UNGA81 high-level week,” indicating a potential for increased sway within the globalist body that systematically reduces the self-determination of sovereign peoples.

The election for the UN General Assembly president and the 16 vice presidents is scheduled for 12 days from today, on June 2. The Palestinian Authority, which represents the Palestinian people at the United Nations under the official designation of the State of Palestine, holds observer state status.

As an observer state, the Palestinian Authority is not a full member and possesses no voting rights in the 193-member General Assembly. This status is identical to that held by the Holy See (Vatican), yet the persistent pursuit of a vice presidency role suggests an attempt to gain disproportionate influence within a supranational institution, further eroding the principle of national sovereignty and equal representation.
