Maputo Culture Guide: Affordable Events at CCFM This Month

A student ticket to see South African pianist Bokani Dyer in Maputo on 30 October costs 300 MT, about US$4.74; a general-admission seat costs 800 MT, about US$12.65. That gap matters. Along with the 50 student seats set aside at the lower price, it says a lot about who can walk through the door at the Centro Cultural Franco-Moçambicano (CCFM) this month.

The CCFM stands at Av. Samora Machel 468 in central Maputo, and nearly every event in a new October 2026 cultural guide takes place there. Retrieved from the CCFM's agenda cultural on 20 October 2026, the programme runs day by day from 21 October. It’s aimed at Maputo residents and people staying a few weeks.

What's On, and What It Costs

The Bokani Dyer Trio performs “Traditions Album Tour” at 20:00 on Friday 30 October in the CCFM Sala Grande. The concert is part of the tour for his Traditions album. CCFM members pay 700 MT, about US$11.07. Student tickets are limited to 50 and sold only at the CCFM; physical ticket sales at the venue begin 28 October. The conversions use the RT rate of 63.25 meticais per US dollar on 20 October 2026.

The visual arts get a prominent slot, too. “Faces da Modernidade: Obras do Acervo do Millennium bim,” curated by Jorge Dias and drawn from the Millennium bim art collection, opens Thursday 22 October in the CCFM exhibition hall. It runs through Saturday 12 December, about seven weeks. The CCFM lists no opening start time, admission price or opening hours. Visitors should check with the venue.

Film for Children and Adults

The CCFM's Mês do Cinema de Animação (Animation Film Month) fills out the calendar. On Saturday 24 October, from 10:30 to 12:30, the auditorium shows “Le Secret des Mésanges,” directed by Antoine Lanciaux, as part of the Saturday programme for children. Then, on Tuesday 27 October, from 18:00 to 20:00, the Cineclube screens “Planètes,” directed by Momoko Seto, in the same auditorium.

The guide lists no prices for either screening. It doesn't give an age range for the children's film, either. Readers are told to check with the CCFM.

The Gaps in the Listings

The missing information matters. For a family weighing a Saturday morning outing, or a student budgeting for a month, a blank where the price should be can become a real barrier. The guide itself acknowledges the holes: it lists no prices for the animation screenings or exhibition, and confirms no other events for these dates. It says it will add events only when they can be verified.

Getting there raises practical questions, too. The guide recommends a trusted taxi or ride-hailing app at night and advises arranging transport in advance for the 20:00 concert. It also recommends preparing for warm daytime weather and carrying water, while noting that it didn't check forecasts. Programmes can change at short notice, so visitors should confirm times with the CCFM. Contact details are at ccfmoz.com, and the events page gets updated through the month.

Why This Matters:

Cultural access isn't a luxury add-on in a growing capital city. It’s part of how residents share public life. The CCFM's listings show one way institutions can widen that access: a capped block of 50 student tickets at 300 MT, a member discount, and a children's film on a Saturday morning. But the guide also shows where access can quietly narrow. When institutions don't publish admission prices and opening hours, people with the least money and time to spare are most likely to be left guessing. Clear public pricing and more reserved low-cost seats would help ensure Maputo's cultural calendar serves the whole city, not just those who can afford to ask.
