Valparaíso October Guide: 14 Events, Many Privately Run

A new events guide lists 14 shows and exhibitions in Valparaíso from Friday, Oct. 16, through Saturday, Oct. 31. Prices range from free to CLP 15,000, about US$15. Built largely around ticket sales, independent venues and university partnerships, the calendar gives visitors a straightforward price list for planning. It’s a busy fortnight.

The Opening Weekend

The calendar begins Friday, Oct. 16, with the sixth edition of PERFORMA, the International Media Arts Festival, at 20:00 at Mercado Puerto, Cochrane 117. Admission is free with prior registration on Ticketplus. The festival presents five immersive audiovisual works combining art, science and technology, including an AI-generated piece about political and urban memory and a sound performance pairing European baroque with Mapuche instruments.

Two events land on Saturday, Oct. 17. Espacio Lola presents contemporary flamenco at 19:30 in Salón Almirante Montt at Destino Valparaíso, Concepción 499, Cerro Concepción. The guide lists no price. Visitors unfamiliar with the area should climb Cerro Concepción in daylight. Later, Chilean singer Camila Moreno performs "La Última Luz" at 20:00 at Teatro Mauri SCD, Avenida Alemania 6985, Cerro Bellavista. Tickets cost CLP 8,000 to 12,000, about US$8 to US$12, and are sold through the venue’s ticketing page.

Paying Audiences Carry the Calendar

Teatro Mauri hosts four events in the guide, most of them ticketed. "Full y la música de Fulano," a theatre-and-music performance, runs Friday, Oct. 23, at 20:00 and costs CLP 10,000 to 15,000, about US$10 to US$15. Musician Daniel Muñoz leads Daniel Muñoz y Los Marujos: También es Cueca on Friday, Oct. 30, at 20:00, with cueca, Chile’s national dance, and repertoire from his 2026 national tour. The venue sells tickets through its ticketing page. On Saturday, Oct. 31, the band Sol y Lluvia presents "Antología" from 19:00 to 20:30 for CLP 10,000, about US$10.

Museums charge admission as well. The APA Collection and Museo Baburizza present "Pacheco Altamirano: Redescubrir a un maestro," a retrospective running through Sunday, Oct. 25, from 10:00 to 18:00 in Cerro Alegre. General admission costs CLP 4,000, about US$4. Students and seniors pay CLP 1,500, about US$1.50, while children under 12 enter free.

University and Regional Partners

Institutional partnerships support several events. On Thursday, Oct. 22, at 18:00, flautist Felipe Egaña and guest musicians perform "Ciclo de Música de Cámara UAI: flute from the Renaissance to Romanticism" at Salón Concepción, as part of the Universidad Adolfo Ibáñez chamber music cycle. The guide lists no price. Carrito del Grabado, an interactive engraving workshop led by mediators from the Universidad de Playa Ancha, takes place Oct. 24 and 25 from 10:00 to 18:00 at Plaza Central. No price appears for that event either.

Fiesta de la Música Chilena runs Saturday, Oct. 24, from 12:00 in Barrio Puerto, with two stages, fairs, activations and family programming near the waterfront. Feria de Anticuarios follows Saturday, Oct. 31, from 10:00 to 18:00 at Plaza Central, where visitors can look for historic objects and small treasures.

Beyond the city, Expo Quillota 2026 runs Thursday, Oct. 29, through Saturday, Oct. 31, in Quillota. The 26th edition brings together entrepreneurs, artisans, food producers and institutions from the region. The regional tourism corporation of the Valparaíso Region organizes the event.

Exhibitions Through Month's End

"A través del espejo," a collection of 18 acrylic paintings by self-taught Valparaíso artist Ervin Echeverría Iturra, runs through Saturday, Oct. 31, from 11:00 to 16:00 at Museo de Historia Natural de Valparaíso, Condell 1546. The exhibition opened Sept. 2 and mixes surrealism with references to Valparaíso, Greece, Venice and Japan. The XIII Bienal Internacional de Artes de Valparaíso opens Wednesday, Oct. 21, and runs through Dec. 27, from 10:00 to 18:00 at Museo Baburizza. It presents the biennial’s winning works on the right to the city, with admission set by the museum tariff.

October is spring in Valparaíso, the guide says, and coastal weather can change. It recommends bringing a light layer and preparing for steep streets. Prices use an exchange rate of about 980 pesos to the U.S. dollar, based on The Rio Times’ Oct. 15, 2026, rate. Many listings don’t give a price, so readers should check organizers’ pages, Turismo Valparaíso, Valpocultura and the Destino Valparaíso programme for updates.

Why This Matters:

The guide portrays a cultural scene that pays much of its own way. Ticket prices of CLP 4,000 to 15,000, private venues such as Teatro Mauri, university-run programming and a regional business expo suggest audiences and institutions—not just public budgets—keep these doors open. For local businesses, a packed two-week calendar means foot traffic for restaurants, hotels and shops on the hills and around the port. Quillota’s expo, bringing together entrepreneurs, artisans and food producers, points to the same commercial thread. There’s a catch: many listings lack prices, leaving visitors to hunt for details themselves. That’s a small cost, but clear pricing would erase it.
